Course Regulations

Earning Credits and Upholding Integrity at Vantage Academy

To earn the corresponding credits, students are required to fulfill 110 hours of coursework and successfully pass the final exam. Academic integrity is paramount; thus, plagiarism in homework or cheating during exams is strictly prohibited. We utilize specialized plagiarism detection software to uphold these standards. Any instances of plagiarism or cheating will result in a grade of zero for the involved assignment or exam.

Coursework Commitment and Timely Submission Guidelines

Completion of all coursework, encompassing various forms of assessments, is necessary to satisfy the 110-hour course requirement as mandated by the Ontario Education Bureau. This duration suggests that completing a course requires a minimum commitment of one month, during which students must engage in class activities and complete homework assignments. It is expected that study hours be distributed evenly throughout this period, avoiding the submission of all assignments in a condensed timeframe, such as 1-2 days.

Course Completion Timeline and Late Submission Policy

The course timeline is capped at 6 months from the registration date, with all coursework to be completed within this period. Late submissions may incur a penalty, with teachers having the discretion to deduct up to 20% from the assignment's regular score.

Grading Structure and Time Log Requirement for Course Accountability

The grading scheme for courses is divided into 70% for daily homework and 30% for the final exam. Students are also expected to document their study hours for each unit on a Time Log Sheet, reflecting their personal learning progress. This log must be submitted upon course completion, ensuring a transparent and self-monitored learning journey.

Final Exam Proctoring Process and Application Guidelines

The final exam requires oversight by a certified individual known as a Proctor to maintain the integrity of the assessment. Students are tasked with selecting a Proctor and submitting their choice to us via info@vantageacademy.ca or principle@vantageacademy.ca at least one week before their intended exam date. Our principal will review each application, and students will be informed about the status of their application.

Proctor Eligibility Criteria and Communication Protocol for Final Exams

Upon approval, the Proctor will receive the exam password via email. Proctors are subject to specific eligibility criteria to ensure exam integrity: they must hold a professional college degree and be actively employed in their field; they must provide a business email for correspondence, as personal emails (such as Gmail or Yahoo) are not acceptable; and they cannot have a personal relationship with the student, including neighbors, friends, tutors, or relatives.

Student Records

In Ontario’s educational landscape, a set of crucial documents play a significant role in charting the academic journey and accomplishments of high school students. Below is an overview:

  • Report Card: Distributed at intervals during the academic year, this document offers an in-depth review of a student’s performance across their courses, featuring grades, insights from teachers, and suggestions for improvement. It acts as a regular checkpoint of a student’s academic progress. Vantage Academy issues an official Ontario Secondary School midterm report card after a student completes half of their course work. A final report card is provided upon the completion of the course, including the exam or final project. These report cards are sent directly to the institution maintaining the student’s Ontario Student Record for integration into their official records. Students also receive digital copies for their records.

  • Ontario Student Transcript (OST): A detailed document that records all the courses a student has taken during high school, their results, credits obtained, and any qualifications awarded. It’s a dynamic document crucial for further education applications and employment prospects. Vantage Academy generates and/or updates the OST for students whose Ontario School Record we maintain, ensuring any credits earned are accurately communicated to the student’s home institution.

  • Ontario Student Report: Enrollment in a course with Vantage Academy necessitates that students either have an existing Ontario Student Record (OSR) at their registered home school or have one created by our Guidance Team. VA must manage a student’s OSR to offer services like credit assessment, OUAC account setup, guidance on community activities, and issuance of diplomas and certificates. While some services might incur extra fees, we strive to offer cost-effective options to our students.

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD): Granted to students who fulfill the graduation criteria, including a certain credit count, literacy completion, and community involvement. The OSSD from Vantage Academy holds the same value as those issued by any Ontario public, Catholic, or inspected private school, ensuring global recognition for post-secondary education or career initiation.

OSSD Requirement

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) is a highly recognized diploma when applying to top universities in 165 countries all over the world, including Canada, US, UK, Australia, etc.
